Greendale couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that the Upton Country Park Welcome Centre – a project we worked on which you can read all about and see the progress here – has been awarded GOLD in the Transformation and Innovation category at the Destination Management Board Tourism Awards 2023.
Roger Brewer, BCP Council, commented in an official statement: “The award places a spot light on our popular new Welcome Centre but also recognises and celebrates the wider enhancements that the Country Park has taken forward in recent years. Thanks to the support of the National Lottery Parks for People fund, the Discovery Project has realised our ambitious plans for a new Welcome Centre, providing an accessible heritage attraction for visitors to relax, enjoy and learn in. Construction spanned January – November 2022, with an official opening in December that year. Located in the main car park, this striking new facility acts as a ‘front door’ to the Country Park.
Inside are interactive and immersive displays, bringing the park’s history to life, giving a glimpse inside the Grade II* listed Upton House and exploring the importance of the varied landscapes the park is so privileged to maintain and enhance.
A huge thank you to our staff, volunteers and partners who have made this possible and most importantly, a big thank you to all our park visitors who have enjoyed and supported us through this transformation.”
Rob Hooker, Director, Greendale construction commented: “Greendale was delighted to be awarded this project as main contractors on the iconic Welcome Centre for BCP Council and Upton Country Park, working with Western Design Architects. The award-winning Welcome Centre creates a real wow factor for visitors, and provides brilliant information and facilities for the users of the park.”

Regional Finalist in the 2024 Civic Trust Awards
Additionally, The Welcome Centre is a Regional Finalist in the 2024 Civic Trust Awards. Regional Finalists are schemes which are of significant merit in their region, contributing to the quality and appearance of the built environment, whilst being sustainable, accessible, and providing a positive civic contribution. The project will now be considered by the National Judging Panel to see whether it will get a National award or be a highly commended winner. Winners will be notified on the 8th January, so I’ll keep you in the loop!
