A Greendale Construction team are currently working on repairs and renovations to the historic Priory Walls, Christchurch, where work is progressing well.

The historic stone and brick boundary walls surrounding Christchurch Priory in Dorset span areas near the quay, the mill stream, and the churchyard. These ancient monument structures feature a mix of medieval stonework and red brick boundary extensions, such as the listed walls running toward Church Street and Quay Road.

History and Structure

Medieval boundaries: Coursed stone and rubble walls mark old monastic limits, including the edge of the medieval services’ court and cemetery areas.

Brick additions: Later high red-brick sections (circa 7 feet tall) separate parts of the churchyard from Church Street and Quay Road.

Materials: Built using local and traditional materials including coursed rubble, ashlar stone dressings, and matching clay bricks.

Previous works by Greendale Construction to Christchurch Priory Walls.

This is not the first time Greendale has worked on The Priory Walls. In October 2020 Greendale handed over the repair work to six areas within Christchurch Priory, a Scheduled Monument situated within approximately 3.7 hectares. Appointed by the Council’s Senior Conservation Officer, in conjunction with Columba Cook Architects, Greendale worked alongside with Albion Stone to carry out the detailed stonework repairs.
