Project Description:

In October 2020 Greendale Construction handed over the repair work to six areas within Christchurch Priory, a Scheduled Monument situated within approximately 3.7 hectares. Appointed by the Council’s Senior Conservation Officer, in conjunction with Columba Cook Architects, Greendale worked alongside with Albion Stone to carry out the detailed stonework repairs.

Following ancient monument guidelines, the stone and brick walls cover a wide area around the quay and Priory, with the contract including rebuilding works adjacent to the mill stream.  The team carefully removed vegetation and tree growth within the walls, and dismantled cappings for a careful rebuild using like for like materials. Shoring and underpinning was also required on various walls. Traditional methods were used to carry out re-building methods, with each and every stone carefully marked and returned to its original location.

These essential works will help to preserve the Priory and the many events that are held within its grounds for the enjoyment of all, for generations to come.
