On Thursday 25th September 2014 the official opening ceremony for the Lantern Community took place. Key Greendale members for the project were Rob Hooker, Director, Dave Neil, Site Manager and John Marsh, Contract Manager.
The event was well attended by the Trustees, Companions and Staff of the Lanterns Community and invited guests. Rob Hooker, Dave Neil and Chrissie Barker attended on behalf of Greendale Construction.
Emma Borbely- Bartis, Project Coordinator on behalf of the Lantern Community, acted as Master of Ceremony for the event and provided background and the concept for the project stating that their dream had taken 10 years to become reality. Emma was very complimentary of all of the design team and Greendale Construction for making their vision come true. Greendale and the design team were also thanked by the Chairman of the Trustees. Hampers and gift bags including crafts made by the Companions were given to the design team; Rob, John and Dave as thanks for all of their hard work.
Four ribbons were cut to represent the four workshops in the Weavery and Pottery buildings by four of the Companions assisted by members of staff.
Guests were invited to view the Pottery and Weavery, where some of the Companions were undertaking weaving.
This was followed by refreshments for the invited guests in the café.
Everyone attending from Greendale’s felt very proud of the two buildings which looked spectacular and were complemented by all that attended.
The Lantern Community is open to visitors. They have a fantastic coffee shop serving light lunches and snacks as well as a great gift shop so please support them by popping in. The beautifully landscaped grounds are a delight for all, and you can even purchase freshly make bread from their bakery.
