Poole High 8

On Friday 3rd October, Poole High School students attended our Greendale Construction site at Poole Methodist Church where they were shown around in order to understand Health & Safety and learn about how a construction site is managed.

The Year 11 students were studying towards their BTec in Construction and so the site visit really went towards helping them in a very practical way – particularly with their H&S module.  Two visits were conducted with 12 students attending each.

A question and answer session followed the visit where students were given the opportunity to ask questions regarding careers in construction; Some of the questions included, ‘how do I  become an apprentice?’ ‘What role does the Site Manager have?’ ‘What does a Contracts Manager do?’

The talk was given by Maria Seabright, HR/Finance Director; Andy Musselwhite, Contracts Director; Chris Cave , Contracts Manager, and Pete Marks, Site Manager.

Maria said: “It was great to have Poole High School students join us on site today.  It is good that they get to see how a construction site operates, as being on site is totally different to being in a classroom and learning the theory.  Greendale have strong links with Poole High School as well as other local schools and colleges as we believe nurturing young people with an interest in the wide and varied careers available within the construction industry is paramount to a healthy and prosperous future, not only for them, but for the future of  the construction industry as a whole.  All the students said they found the visit to be useful and the team and I were really impressed with their enthusiasm and the questions they asked.”
