Barker Dry Cleaning’s flagship Ashley Cross store has opened its doors eight months after a serious fire swept through the building in October 2013, rendering the Church Road launderette in need of a comprehensive re-build, carried out by Greendale Construction.

Intent on finding the ‘silver lining’ and turning a potentially devastating situation into a positive, Barker Group Managing Director, Matthew Barker, has worked closely with the Dorset Chartered Builders over the last 8 months to develop what will be one of the most advanced, well equipped and well-designed cleaning units that exist in the UK today.

Matthew Barker, who is thrilled with the results, said: “We operate in a complex multi-faceted industry and it was Greendale’s ability to understand what we required, merging the operational and mechanical requirements of ourselves, our equipment suppliers and themselves, that have made this project what it is today; an exceptional production and retail facility. The newest and most advanced dry cleaning technology is being employed to deliver the best quality dry cleaning available, backed by Barker’s guarantee of quality and service.”

Greendale Construction Limited Director, Chris Kane said: “It has been a pleasure working with Matthew on this project, alongside Russell Walton of Bennington Green. Greendale is proud to have turned this badly fire damaged building into one of the most advanced and well equipped launderette and dry cleaning facilities in the country. We were extremely impressed with Matthew’s drive and innovation to keep the business running from a temporary unit at the rear of the building which operated throughout the re-build and refurbishment, and are thrilled that the business is now fully operational again.”
