A charity cake sale is being held by Dorset Chartered Builders, Greendale Construction Limited, to raise money for a little boy who has a condition so rare, he is one of just 100 known cases with Chromosome 14q Deletion Syndrome in the world.
Three year old Bobby Griffin was diagnosed with Chromosome 14q deletion syndrome shortly after his birth at Poole Maternity Hospital on 11th May 2013, and is the only known person suffering from the syndrome to have the exact same part of the 14q chromosome missing.
Bobby’s mum, Leanne Griffin, said: “Bobby is doing really well at the moment. We give him daily physio which appears to be paying off because if we put him into a seated position, he will stay there unaided and support himself for a good 1 to 2 minutes – this does not seem a lot, but for Bobby, this is a massive achievement. Although he is still quote floppy, can’t crawl, walk or talk, we are hoping that with his continued support and physio that this will slowly improve and he will reach his own milestones.
“At the moment, Bobby sleeps on an inflatable bed on the floor in our bedroom. We are hoping to raise funds to assist in building Bobby his very own bedroom and wet-room with a hoist linking the rooms to allow ease of movement. We are also hoping to have a lift fitted and are applying for a council grant for this.”
Greendale Construction Finance & HR Director, Maria Seabright, said: “The staff at Greendale chose Bobby’s Future as our charity for 2016, and we hope to raise lots of money to help towards Bobby getting his own bedroom, which is not only much needed for Bobby, but will help his amazing parents as they strive for a normal, loving, family life with Bobby’s sisters, Connie and Kayla.
“Everyone is welcome to pop into our offices at 6, Old Generator House, 25, Bourne Valley Road, Branksome, on the 12th September to enjoy a selection of tasty homemade cakes which will have been baked by our wonderful staff, and also purchase some pots of delicious homemade jams I’ve made myself.”
