A Bournemouth Primary School is benefitting from a £1.1 million extension and refurbishment project which will see the size of the school hall increased, along with two extensions which will form new class bases.
Greendale Construction Ltd will be carrying out the works to Winton Primary School over an eighteen week period during which time the school will remain open with minimal disruption to pupils and staff.
Winton Primary School Headmaster, Mr Neil Tarchetti, commented: “From the school’s point of view we are delighted to work with Greendale to begin the project to upgrade our facilities to those required to be a four form entry primary school. We have lacked communal areas that are fit for purpose and once construction of the new hall is complete we will be able to gather bigger groups of children and parents together, as well as enhance the quality of our PE provision.
Greendale Construction Director, Chris Kane, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and it’s great to be back at Winton Primary School and working with Bournemouth Borough Council on this much needed upgrade to the school.”
Councillor Nicola Greene, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said “I am pleased to see that the first phase of work is now underway at the school. We are investing a total of £3 million in Winton Primary School to both enhance the school’s facilities for both staff and pupils and also provide a permanent expansion for an additional 210 school places required at the school. We have been working closely with the school on the expansion plans which forms part of the Council’s wider programme of work to provide enough primary school places across the borough to meet the increasing need for more school places.”
