Everyone at Greendale’s are celebrating after scooping the prestigious Federation of Master Builders’ National Award for UK’s Best Builder, for our work on the restoration and refurbishment of Durlston Castle!

Rob, Chris, Maria and Chrissie attended the ceremony in London on Wednesday, along with David Crudginton and Martin Kennedy from Dorset County Council, who nominated Greendale for the award, and were thrilled to discover they had beaten the cream of the country’s building talent in the 11th Federation of Master Builders’ National Awards, to win the best in commercial sector.

Architect and TV presenter, George Clarke, presented them with their award in front of over 550 people who attended the event.

TV presenter and architect, George Clarke, presented the award.

The guest speaker was Mark Prisk MP Housing Minister who literally hot footed it from the Houses of Parliament on Budget Day to present a very ‘up beat’ speech in support of the construction industry and new housing incentives.

The 18 month, £4.4 million project included the complete stripping out and partial demolition of the castle before rebuilding, extending and carrying out a complex internal fit-out.  The judges were particularly impressed with the wide range of construction methods used to deliver this project – from traditional crafts such as stone masonry with lime mortars, terracotta work, copper sheet roof work and intricate lead detailing, to very modern methods for the new build extensions.
