We were delighted to host a visit from members of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to our site at Poole Museum, where we are currently in the middle of phase 2 of a fifty-week major refurbishment to Poole Museum and Scaplens Court.
The works Greendale are carrying out will:
– Help the conservation of important and historic buildings
– Improving access for all visitors – a new bigger lift in the Museum itself, and a new lift in Scaplens Court.
– Upgrade fire and security detection for future building protection
– The works will facilitate a major new exhibition fit out to share the important maritime history of Poole.
– The works will also help secure the future of this wonderful public building and assets in rediscovering Poole’s maritime heritage.
Poole Museum Town Cellars
When work is complete, the town cellars will form an important part of the new exhibition fit out.
There is to be a glass floor with a projector beneath, a cannon and the famous log boat is to be housed in here. The log boat is dated to 295BC and was found in Poole Harbour.
Scaplens Court will form part of the Museum, boasting a new café. It will also continue to be used as a wedding venue.
Greendale founding Director, Rob Hooker commented: “Our guests from the CIOB had the full tour around the outside of the buildings into Scaplens Court, and each floor of the Mill Building, as well as the amazing ancient Wool Hall. Our Greendale team of Commercial Director, Chris Cave, CM, Jonny Reach, and Assistant Site Manager, Tim Jackson, were brilliant hosts, speakers, and tour guides, ensuring the event was appreciated and enjoyed by all the CIOB attendees. These are such interesting buildings steeped in history, and we were able to explain and show the works we are undertaking to make the whole museum accessible to all, and environmentally controlled to be able to display artefacts from other collections.
