Blandford Hospital Team Chrissie Barker - PA to Directors and CDMC advisor

For Rob Hooker, one of the founding Directors of Greendale Construction Ltd, being awarded the latest contract at Blandford Community Hospital was a pleasing twist of fate which brought back happy memories from the mid-1980s when, employed as Site Manager for another building firm, he worked on the hospital’s major extension and cottage hospital refurbishment, opened by Princess Anne on the 11th September 1986.

Almost thirty years later, Greendale is delighted to be undertaking internal alterations to form new office spaces for DHC and DCC staff. The £250K, 10 week project, in the heart of the busy hospital means Greendale will be doing all it can to keep the inconvenience down to a minimum for patients and staff.

Back in the 80s, in his role as Finishing Foreman for phase one of the original new build project, and Site Manager on the phase 2 restoration and extension of the cottage hospital, Rob worked as an enthusiastic member of the Ernest Ireland construction team where he got to grips with delivering the project to the then client, Wessex Regional Health Authority.

Talking about the project, Rob reminisced: “We constructed the main entrance canopy around a beautiful protected copper beech tree.  Unfortunately, the tree has since died, but the aperture for its growth is still there. We even had a tower crane! I remember it being a terrific learning experience for me and enjoyed the challenge immensely. We had a great team then and we have a great Greendale team now.

“It is great to come full circle, so to speak, and return after 30 years to see that much of the original work we did has stood the test of time.

“Right now Greendale is proud to be working for Dorset Healthcare NHS Trust, and the Architects, Relph Ross Partnership, on the new co-location project and look forward to a successful hand over in early July 2014.”
