Project Description:
Greendale were appointed to construct a roof-top pavilion with panoramic views for the residents of an Art Deco building in Poole, Dorset. We created a decked terrace with two sunrooms on the roof of a four storey 1930’s building for an internationally renowned Architect. One of the apartments was for use by the residents while the other was accessed directly for the sole use by the Architect’s apartment.
After a lengthy planning process the project brief was to simply create a space to exploit the stunning surrounding views of the Dorset coastline. The creation of a deck and sedum roof for external use, along with two structural glass sunrooms with limestone tiles, underfloor heating and a flat screen television mounted on one of the glass walls. New tubular stainless-steel handrails were added to the existing stone parapet to enhance and protect the occupants.
Prior to the clients arrival at Sandbanks Court the apartment had been modernized, however many of the original Art Deco features had been lost. The remodelling of the apartment meant sympathetic refurbishment could be made to restore some of these features, including full height doors and chrome Art Deco furniture.
