Comprehensive Refurbishment of Ramsbury Surgery While Remaining Fully Operational
Greendale Construction delivered a comprehensive healthcare refurbishment of Ramsbury Surgery, upgrading a live GP surgery through a carefully phased programme while the practice remained fully operational. The project enhanced clinical functionality, accessibility, sustainability, and patient experience within an active healthcare environment.
Ramsbury Surgery is a busy village medical practice serving the local community with a team of GPs, clinical support staff, and administrative personnel. To enhance patient experience, improve clinical functionality, and modernise the existing layout, the Surgery received a comprehensive refurbishment and upgrade. The project required careful planning and delivery due to the Surgery remaining fully operational throughout the works, in addition to ongoing COVID‑19 precautions.
Project Scope: Enhancing Accessibility, Sustainability and Patient Flow
New Entrance Porch: Construction of a modern entrance porch to improve accessibility, shelter, and patient flow entering the building.
Photovoltaic (PV) System Installation: A solar photovoltaic array was installed on the existing roof to support the Surgery’s long‑term sustainability objectives by reducing energy consumption and operational carbon footprint.
Internal Refurbishment Delivering Modern, Efficient Clinical Environments
A full internal refurbishment was delivered, including:
- Removal of existing finishes and installation of new vinyl flooring and associated skirtings throughout patient areas, consultation rooms, circulation spaces, and staff facilities.
- Replacement of medical storage units, clinical worktops, sinks, and staff workstations to improve hygiene, durability, and ergonomics.
- Complete replacement of existing luminaires with energy‑efficient LED lighting, improving visual comfort and reducing running costs.
- Full re-decoration of the Surgery, creating a brighter, cleaner and more welcoming environment for both staff and patients.
Phased Delivery Strategy Ensuring Continuity of Care Throughout Construction
Given that Ramsbury Surgery continued to operate during the project, works were carefully delivered across seven meticulously planned phases. This approach ensured:
- Continuous operation of GP and clinical services
- Minimal disruption to staff and patients
- Safe segregation of construction zones
- Additional planning and safety measures due to COVID‑19 requirements, including enhanced hygiene protocols, temporary access routes, and phased room rotations
A Modernised GP Surgery Designed for Long-Term Performance and Patient Wellbeing
The completed refurbishment has significantly improved the functionality, appearance, and efficiency of Ramsbury Surgery. The new clinical spaces, updated lighting, and modern finishes offer a high-quality environment for patient care, while the PV system and LED upgrades contribute to long-term energy savings.
Despite the challenges of working in an active healthcare setting during a pandemic, the entire programme was delivered smoothly, safely, and to a high standard.
